Polish American Awareness Foundation and PLUS Journal will lend support to inaugural Chicago Bluegrass & Blues Festival
When international acts need a big stage from which to entertain thousands of Chicago’s ethnic music lovers, the historic Congress Theater is where they go. While other venues of its size have traditionally shied away from booking acts that cater to a primarily non-English speaking audience, the Congress has embraced the numerous communities that make Chicago great.
After years of hosting such events as ATB and Polapalooza, the theater is finally teaming up with the leading advocates of Chicago’s Polish community to raise awareness for their host of righteous causes and events. Eventually, the Polish American Awareness Foundation(PAAF) plans to bring some of Poland’s leading acts to the Congress for an event that spans numerous genres of popular Polish art and music.
Leading up to the November 22nd event, the PAAF and PLUS Journal of Polish American Affairs, Chicago’s leading Polish-American magazine, will help spread the word about the this needed addition to the city’s winter concert calendar and the righteous cause it supports. Check plusjournal.com for Chicago Bluegrass & Blues Festival ticket giveaways and updates about the event.
ABOUT THE POLISH AMERICAN AWARENESS FOUNDATION:
The Polish American Awareness Foundation (paafonline.org) was founded in Chicago, Illinois, as a joint effort by a few young Polish-American professionals in 2007. A small group of businessman, publishers, investors, journalists and activists realized that they share the same ideals. PAAF founders are fully integrated and proud Americans who proudly display their rich Polish heritage.
The PAAFs mission is to enrich America’s contemporary society by promoting a greater knowledge and appreciation of Polish and Polish-American history and culture. The PAAF also aims to strengthen America’s democracy and economy by fostering the increased participation of Polish Americans and Poles in our nation’s civic and business lives.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL:
On November 22nd, 2008, the Congress Theater will host the inaugural Chicago Bluegrass & Blues Festival (cbbfestival.com). While rooted in the foot-stomping influences of bluegrass and blues, the Chicago Bluegrass & Blues Festival will transport the concertgoer through the genre-defying evolution of music today. The one-day event will serve as a tribute to two schools of music that continue to shape and inspire contemporary rock, jamband, funk, folk, roots, Americana, and indie cultures, while allowing festivalgoers to save a heart. A portion of each $31 ticket will be donated to the Saving tiny Hearts Society (www.savingtinyhearts.org), an non-profit organization that raises money for America’s #1 birth defect, congenital heart defects (CHD).
