Minimizing the Metronome Celebration’s impact on the environment is a central goal and presents a unique challenge to the organizers of the event. The festival crew endeavors to set an example for all other festivals to follow in terms of sustainable business practices, recycling and operational efficiency.
Inspiring Innovation
They hope to spur new ideas to providing a better life to area residents through our Sustainable Project Award. Event proceeds were awarded through an application process that funded a project submitted to improve recycling, composting, energy efficiency, green space development or any other project that will help reduce the burden of the local community on the environment and improve the lives of the citizens of Chicago.
Transportation
All staff will utilize public transportation and car sharing programs in 100% of their activities producing the festival. All advertising will encourage attendees to utilize public transportation, our bicycle parking areas and take advantage of our centralized location. Advertising will include use of the CTA’s advertising programs and billboards, which take advantage of natural traffic patterns.
Business Practices & Sourcing
The Metronome Celebration will use electronic forms of communication and advertising whenever possible. When physical products are required, recycled/biodegradable business and printing supplies will be sourced whenever possible. The event has already contracted with suppliers for bio-degrable products, including cups, wristbands and food containers to be used during the event. Vendors will be given financial incentives to utilize these products and minimize waste.
Waste Limitation and Recycling Program
The stated goal is to recycle and compost 50% of waste generated from our operations and essentially prevent tons of solid waste from being deposited in local landfills. Vendors will be given financial incentives to minimize their waste output and align their operations with our goals. Conversely, vendors will be financially discouraged from wasteful operations and business practices. Kleen Team staff will be trained and instructed to minimize waste and effectively maintain a clean venue.
Public Cooperation
The Metronome Celebration will aggressively promote cooperation on the part of attendees in reaching our waste limitation priorities and goals. Public advertising will promote responsible environmental behavior to attendees. Signage and broadcast announcements will repeatedly and consistently encourage patrons to assist in reaching our waste and recycling goals. A process to guarantee to smooth collection of recyclable and biodegradable materials in all spaces on the venue will be instituted and followed fervently.
Everyone should come to the intersection of Armitage, Western and Milwaukee this weekend to check out the Chicago Bluegrass and Blues stage!
